How the life path number is calculated

Your life path number is the sum of your full date of birth reduced to a single digit, unless it lands on a master number. The most widely used method reduces each part separately:

  1. Month: reduce to one digit (November = 11 is kept as a master number).
  2. Day: add the digits, e.g. 29 → 2 + 9 = 11 (kept), 15 → 1 + 5 = 6.
  3. Year: add the digits and reduce, e.g. 1990 → 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1.
  4. Total: add the three results and reduce again. Stop at 11, 22 or 33.

Example: 15 August 1990 → 8 + 6 + 1 = 15 → 1 + 5 = life path 6.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my life path number?

Reduce the month, day and year of your birth date to single digits (keeping 11 and 22), add the three results, then reduce the total again. For 15 August 1990: month 8, day 1+5 = 6, year 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+0 = 1. Then 8 + 6 + 1 = 15 → 1+5 = 6, so the life path number is 6.

What are master numbers 11, 22 and 33?

In numerology, 11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers and are not reduced further. They are read as stronger versions of 2, 4 and 6. This calculator keeps 11 and 22 in the month, day and year steps and keeps 11, 22 or 33 when they appear as the final total.

Why do different calculators give different life path numbers?

There are two common methods. One adds every digit of the date at once; the other reduces month, day and year separately first. Both usually give the same single digit, but they can disagree on master numbers. This page uses the separate-reduction method and shows the full-digit result too when it differs.

Which life path numbers are compatible?

Numerology traditionally pairs 1, 5 and 7 (independent), 2, 4 and 8 (practical), and 3, 6 and 9 (creative). Use the compatibility checker above to compare two birth dates. Treat it as fun, not as relationship advice.

Is life path 33 rare?

Yes. A final total of exactly 33 needs specific birth dates, so it is much less common than other numbers. Many calculators reduce it to 6; this one keeps it.

Is my date of birth stored or uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server.

Is numerology scientific?

No. Life path numbers come from numerology tradition and are for entertainment and self-reflection only, not scientific, medical or financial guidance.
