How to use the wheel of names
- Add entries: type or paste names, one per line (copying a column from Excel or Google Sheets works).
- Spin: click Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter.
- Pick again: the winner is removed automatically, so the next spin picks from the rest. Untick the option to keep everyone on the wheel.
- Present it: use Fullscreen for a projector, classroom board or screen share.
- Reuse or share: save named lists for next time, or copy a share link to send the same wheel to someone else.
Popular uses: picking a random student, raffle and giveaway draws, Secret Santa order, choosing who presents first in a standup, deciding where to eat, or assigning chores.
Frequently asked questions
How does the wheel of names work?
Type or paste names, one per line, and click Spin (or press Ctrl+Enter). The wheel spins for a few seconds and the name under the pointer at the top wins. Every entry gets an equal-sized slice, so every name has the same chance.
Is the wheel of names random and fair?
Yes. The spin strength and duration come from your browser's random number generator, and all slices are the same size. Nobody, including us, can influence the result.
How do I remove the winner after each spin?
Keep Remove winner after spin ticked and the winning name is taken off the list automatically. Untick it if names should stay on the wheel; you can still remove a single winner with the Remove button in the winner banner.
Can I save my list and use it later?
Yes. Your current list is saved automatically in this browser. You can also save several named lists (for example "Class 7B" or "Team standup") and load them again with one click.
How do I share my wheel with someone?
Click Copy share link. The names are stored inside the link itself, so whoever opens it sees the same wheel. No account or upload is needed, and nothing is stored on our server.
How many names can I add?
Up to 500 entries. For readability, labels are shortened on the wheel when there are a lot of names, but the full name is shown when it wins.
Can I use it for giveaways or classroom picks?
Yes. It is popular for raffles, giveaways, picking students, assigning tasks and deciding who goes first. Use fullscreen mode when presenting on a projector or video call.
