SGPA is one semester's grade point average. CGPA combines all semesters, usually weighted by credits: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Once you have the CGPA, convert it with your university's rule above.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

There is no single national formula. Pick your board or university: CBSE Class 10 (2010–2017) uses CGPA × 9.5, many universities such as Anna University, AKTU and VTU's 2021/2022 schemes use CGPA × 10, and JNTUH and GTU use (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. The rule printed on your grade card always wins.

What is 8.5 CGPA in percentage?

It depends on the formula: 80.75% with CBSE's × 9.5 rule, 85% with the × 10 rule, 80% with (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 and 77.5% with (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.

Why does CBSE multiply CGPA by 9.5?

CBSE introduced CGPA for Class 10 under the CCE scheme (2010 to 2017) and said an indicative percentage can be found by multiplying CGPA by 9.5, based on the average performance of students. CBSE results after 2018 show marks, so the formula only applies to old CGPA mark sheets.

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Reverse your formula. For CBSE divide the percentage by 9.5, for × 10 universities divide by 10, and for (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 divide by 10 and add 0.5. Use the 'Percentage → CGPA' tab to do this automatically.

What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA is your grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the average across all semesters so far, normally weighted by the credits in each semester. Use the 'SGPA → CGPA' tab and enter credits for an exact figure.

Which percentage should I write in a job or college form?

If the form asks for a percentage and your university issues an official conversion rule or certificate, use that figure and mention the formula. Many employers and foreign universities accept the university's conversion certificate as the official percentage.
