Hash text for checksums, cache keys, or debugging. SHA-1 and SHA-256 use the Web Crypto SubtleCrypto API. MD5 is not available in SubtleCrypto, so this page includes a compact local MD5 implementation for legacy needs — do not use MD5 for security.

No. Hashing runs entirely in your browser.
Why is MD5 separate?
Browsers deliberately omit MD5 from Web Crypto. We ship a small local implementation for compatibility checksums only.
Is SHA-1 safe?
SHA-1 is deprecated for signatures. Prefer SHA-256 for new work.
