What the alignment test page checks
- 5 mm grid with 10 mm major lines and millimetre labels along the top and left — straightness, scale and doubled lines.
- Diagonals and concentric circles (20–100 mm across) — skew and stretching. Circles must stay round.
- Vertical-line check — nine pairs of lines offset from -0.4 to +0.4 mm. The 0 pair should join straight; if another pair looks straighter, the head is out of alignment.
- Margin frames at 3, 5 and 8 mm from the paper edge — your printer's real printable area.
- 100 mm and 4 inch rulers plus corner targets — exact scale and cropping.
Reading the results
| What you see | Meaning | Fix |
| Doubled or fuzzy vertical lines | Bidirectional print-head misalignment | Run print head alignment from the driver or printer menu |
| Grid rotated on the page | Paper fed at an angle | Adjust the paper guides, reload paper, clean rollers |
| Circles slightly oval | Page scaled differently in each direction | Print at 100% / Actual size, turn off borderless |
| Ruler shorter than 100 mm | "Fit to page" or shrink option on | Set scale to 100%; use the scale checker above |
| A corner target or frame side missing | Edge outside the printable area or the page is offset | Normal for 3 mm; if one side loses much more than the other, the paper or print is off-centre |
| Colour fringes on lines (colour laser) | Colour registration drift | Run colour calibration / registration from the printer menu |
Alignment uses very little ink. After aligning, check colours with the colour printer test page or black output with the black and white test page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check printer alignment?
Print this page at 100% scale, then check that the grid lines are straight and not doubled, the circles are round, the diagonals meet in the centre and the vertical-line check pairs join cleanly. Doubled or jagged lines mean the print head needs aligning.
How do I fix a misaligned printer?
Use the printer's own alignment utility: on Windows open Printer properties › Maintenance (or Services) › Print head alignment; on Mac open the manufacturer's utility; on many printers it is in the front-panel Setup or Maintenance menu. Then print this page again.
Why are my prints crooked or skewed?
If the grid is rotated on the paper, the paper is being fed at an angle. Move the paper guides so they touch the stack, don't overfill the tray, and check for worn feed rollers.
What do the 3, 5 and 8 mm frames show?
They are measured from the paper edge. Frames that print show how close to the edge your printer can print. Most printers can't print the 3 mm frame; many can't print 5 mm. That is normal — it is the printer's unprintable margin.
Why are the circles oval?
The page was stretched in one direction, usually by a "Fit to page" or borderless setting, or by uneven paper feed. Print at 100% / Actual size and measure the 100 mm ruler.
Is this alignment page free and private?
Yes. It prints from your browser and nothing is uploaded.
